剛來美國的時候；對於老美在萬聖節期間願意花大錢佈置前院，甚至把車庫改裝成鬼屋，讓人免費進去被嚇到魂飛魄散的這種慣例，感到十分的不可思議。就算有些社區有舉辦萬聖節佈置比賽，得獎者可以獲得獎金，但在美國住久的人都知道，那些獎金和花在佈置上的錢相比，根本就是九牛一毛啊～
後來又發現，原來每個地區都有那麼幾間有名的鬼屋，每年都有不同主題、每年都會精心的佈置，通常這些民宅的佈置會佔據整個前院和屋頂，精細複雜的程度甚至不亞於主題樂園，令人歎為觀止、印象深刻。
